counting my lucky stars

Hi... my name is Cookie and I'm a slacker!

At least that's how I'm feeling this morning - I feel like I just came out of a thick fog and need to jump start myself!

A couple of weeks ago, there was a huge box waiting for me on the counter when I got home from the office. As soon as I saw the return address, I knew it was going to be something phenomenal, because it was from my buddy Starla of Briar-Rabbit-Prims! I'm here to tell you, this girl knows how to spoil you rotten.

She is such a treasure to my heart - and when I saw that she shipped me her sweet Ellie, I was dancing the jig ....

Isnt she fantastic? Thank you so much Starla - I am just so sorry it took me 2 weeks to brag you up!!!

Like I said - I've been a terrible slacker - but I love ya ♥

Asleep at the Wheel

Do you ever go through periods of time when you just can't seem to find the gumption (for lack of a better term) to post? It wasn't until Pea left a remark on my blog that I realized it's been 2 weeks since I came in and posted anything!
C-R-A-Z-Y !

And it's not like I haven't had things going on in my life... I mean, I haven't been under a rock for the last 14 days - I guess I've just been concentrating on other things and this was moved to the back burner.

So let me just apologize for being lax - I'll do better!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

When you love you should not say, "God is in my heart," but rather, "I am in the heart of God."

And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.

Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself.

But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:

To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.

To know the pain of too much tenderness.

To be wounded by your own understanding of love;

And to bleed willingly and joyfully.

To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;

To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;

To return home at eventide with gratitude;

And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.

Maybe, Just Maybe....

Maybe . . the happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.
Maybe . . it is true that we don't know what we have until we lose it, but it is also true that we don't know what we have been missing until it arrives.
Maybe . . the brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; after all, you can't go on successfully in life until you let go of your past mistakes, failures, and heartaches.
Maybe . . the best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had.
Maybe . . you should always try to put yourself in others' shoes. If you feel that something could hurt you, it probably will hurt the other person,too.
Maybe . . we were supposed to meet the wrong people before meeting the right one so that, when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to be Grateful for that gift.
Maybe . . you should do something nice for someone every single day, even if it is simply to leave them alone.
Maybe . . giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they will love you back. Don't expect love in return; just wait for it to grow in their heart; but if it doesn't, be content that it
grew in yours.
Maybe . . happiness waits for all those who cry, all those who hurt, all those who have searched, and all those who have tried, for only they can appreciate the importance of all the people who
have touched their lives.
Maybe . . you shouldn't go for looks; they can deceive; don't go for wealth; even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile, because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright. Find the one who makes your heart smile.
Maybe . . you should hope for enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, and enough hope to make you happy.

I'm a Weiner!

Last week, I got an email from Nancy Malay of Vintage Whimsy and Folk Art, telling me that I was one of the winners on her blog drawing.

I about flipped and then, when I saw the sweet card I won, I did a double back flip! It couldn't be more perfectly suited card for me if she made if for me personally! I fell in love immediately... but when it arrived on Thursday, it was even so much better in person. Such beautiful work involved in such a sweet card ... this dear friend has gifted hands!
Thank you Nanc, I will always treasure this sweet lil girl!

Eliza is growing up!

I got a facebook message from my "son" in Baghdad showing pictures of his daughter Eliza. She is 18 months old now, and as you can imagine George Wayne cant wait for his tour of duty to be over (coming up April!!).
He is so anxious to be home so he can be a part of her growing into "toddler-hood". Mommy Ona has done a wonderful job playing both mommy-and-daddy, filling the gap left in their family when the army called George back for yet another round of service. But they have done their duty for God and country and now, it's time to spend their days together.

And if you think this sweet little girl looks like an angel in these pictures, you would be right. She is the sweetest, most gentle baby I've ever met ♥

Dear God...

I used to teach Sunday School for years and during that time I taught pre-schoolers, 2nd &3rd graders and 5th & 6th graders. I love kids and the way their minds work, so I can imagine how the email that I received yesterday could have been started by a Sunday School teacher, asking her class to write a letter to God - telling them to write down whatever is on their heart.

Each letter was precious, but I wanted to share a few of my faves...
And my personal favorite:

I leave you with this:

"Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men. Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers. Pray for powers equal to your tasks. Then the doing of your work shall be no miracle, but you shall be the miracle."

--Phillips Brooks

Okie doke, I'll play along...

Peanut of Countryfolk Keepsakes has garnered an award on me - and sad to say, I typically dont have alot of time to do what I love doing, which is blog-hopping and seeing what all my buds have been up to, but this time? ... well, it's just too much fun NOT to pass up!

This one is a bit different than most awards. With this one you must pick the 4th photo in your 4th folder on your computer then tag 4 (or 5) others. Since I'm at the office - this is what the 4th photo was!

It was taken at our Christmas party and from the look on my face, it was some ASTONISHING news! lolol

Ok, I'm also playing along and now, I get to name my other friends to play along.

Here are my chosen to play along (if you like):

Starla, of Briar-Rabbit Prims

The Olde Dame of Penniwigs fame

Debbie of Onion Patch Primitives

Kelly of Mystical Entities

Deb of Bittersweet Pastimes
