38 years ago...

It was 38 years ago that I met the man I would eventually marry.
At the time, I was 3 years older than him ...
he was 17 at the time and thought he needed to fib
about his true age to get my interest.

Little did he know, I was already smitten
with this young GI stationed at Ft. Riley, KS.

Within a year, we were living together
 and then in 1980 while we were living in Colorado,
we got married in the front room of our mountain home.

It's been a lifetime of experiences ...
some sad, some bittersweet, but for the most part
wonderful memories that we went through together
and survived to grow even closer together.

So today, we are celebrating his 55th birthday
and I just want to say I love you more than ever.
You are my knight in (mostly) shining armor.
You are my protector and my confidant.
I trust you implicitly and look to you so often
for wisdom, direction and assurance.

Happy Birthday Darrell!
I love you, babe ♥

Someone special just turned 2!

Time passes so quickly ... I remember when our little Sully was born two years ago, what an exciting time it was for everyone!

There were some complications when he was born that caused him to spend a number of hours in the ICU. As hard as this transition was for him,
I do believe it was even harder on all of us!
But we made it through, Sully made it through just fine -
and grew and thrived into a little chunky monkey,
so full of love and the sweetest temperament.
And now, we find ourselves celebrating birthday number two
with this special little guy.

He has managed to capture the hearts of everyone
that has ever met him... or even seen pictures of him
 growing up and I'll share a few pictures
of his birthday celebration over the weekend.

He was excited to show off all the cool stuff in his bedroom...

 But then, it was time to eat ...

SKETTY!!
  And Sully says it's good, too  :)

Sully had so much fun with all of his friends and family
and loved all of the balloons that everyone brought to celebrate the day.
His little hands could only hold so many ...

Unlike last year when he was covered in cake,
this year it was a cupcake, eaten very carefully!

Mommy and Anna made his cupcakes and they were sure good!

Sully can't remember.... is this 2??
Anyway, after lunch and birthday cuppies, it was time for a little cruise!
He got a car and a new trike and a sandbox and lots of great toys!

when his friend Taylor tried to take a little spin,
Sully wanted to ride with her but they figured out pretty quickly
 that it worked better when Taylor pushed and Sully steered!

We had alot of fun on Saturday and
Sully hated to see all of his friend leave  :(

The morning after revealed an aftermath of deflated balloons
 and scattered toys ... not to mention one tired little boy  :)

But we're all looking forward to a fun year ...
Sully will start talking soon and boy o boy... I cannot wait for that!

Happy Birthday Sweet Sully... I love you very much ♥

It's a Celebration!

We are so excited to announce the 5th Birthday of the
TDIPT MERCANTILE
and we are having a major celebration, with drawings galore!
There are several ways to be sure your name is qualified
to be in the drawing and full details
will be revealed tonight on the Merc.
You won't want to miss out on this ....
Up for grabs, I have fashioned a new pinkeep and
he's a very special hoot owl created from stained osnaburg.

This guy has alot of character -
He is perched on a floral and flannel stuffed pin-keep,
complete with buttons and stick pins.
Around his neck is a tarnished brass stamped tag.
I hope you will make plans to stop by tonight,
not only to see all of the wonderful offerings for sale,
but also to be sure you get entered in the drawing to be held on March 22nd!

I Wonder Why

I wonder why the sun shines bright,
In the early morning after night.

I wonder why the moon shines bright,
It's such a beautiful sight!

I wonder why the star shines bright,
When the world looks, it sparks with light.

I wonder why the clouds are high,
Up above the gleaming sky.

I wonder why the grass is green,
So beautiful I have ever seen.

I wonder why the ants are small,
Red and black, I mean them all.

I wonder about everything I see,
Except about me!

The Significance of the Flag Draped Coffin

As our troops return home from Iran, I thought back to those who have fought valiantly for our freedoms and even given their life so we could live as a free nation.

American flags have been draped over military veterans' coffins since the Napoleonic Wars in the late 1700s and early 1800s. The custom is rich with tradition and requires a certain protocol. Our founding fathers used God's Word and His teachings to establish our great nation and maybe it's time to have a refresher course in the basics of our Nation's history.

I'm a proud American and have the utmost respect for those that serve to protect our 'God Given' rights and freedoms. Here is how to understand the flag that laid upon it and is surrendered to so many widows and widowers.

Did you know that at military funerals, the 21-gun salute stands for the sum of the numbers in the year 1776?

Have you ever noticed the honor guard pays meticulous attention to correctly folding the United States of America Flag 13 times? You probably thought it was to symbolize the original 13 colonies, but as you read on, you might be very surprised and enlightened:

The 1st fold of the flag is a symbol of life.

The 2nd fold is a symbol of the belief in eternal life.

The 3rd fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans departing the ranks who gave a portion of their lives for the defense of the country to attain peace throughout the world.

The 4th fold represents the weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in time of war for His divine guidance.

The 5th fold is a tribute to the country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, 'Our Country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong.'

The 6th fold is for where people's hearts lie. It is with their heart that they pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America , and the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.

The 7th fold is a tribute to its Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that they protect their country and their flag against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of their republic.

The 8th fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day.

The 9th fold is a tribute to womanhood, and Mothers. For it has been through their faith, their love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great has been molded.

The 10th fold is a tribute to the father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of their country since they were first born.

The 11th fold represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon and glorifies in the Hebrews eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

The 12th fold represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in the Christians eyes, God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit.

The 13th fold, or when the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost reminding them of their Nations motto, 'In God We Trust.'

After the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington, and the Sailors and Marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones, who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for them the rights, privileges and freedoms they enjoy today.

There are some traditions and ways of doing things that have deep meaning.

In the future, you'll see flags folded and remember why we Americans love our symbol of ' Liberty and Freedom.

A new day has dawned with a fresh start

As I look forward to a new year, dear Lord, please give me…

A few friends who understand me and remain my friends;

A work to do which has real value, without which the world would be the poorer;

A mind unafraid to travel, even though the trail be not blazed;

An understanding heart;

A sense of humor;

Time for quiet, silent meditation;

A feeling of the presence of God;

The patience to wait for the coming of these things,

With the wisdom to recognize them when they come.

Amen.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Every year, a custom carries on that was started by my dear Mother-in-Law years ago: we wake on Thanksgiving morning and flip on CBS to watch the Macy's Day parade
as we busy ourselves in the kitchen, preparing a family feast.
Several years ago, I was half watching The Morning Show with Harry Smith,
who narrated a segment with Anne Graham.

Anne read a prayer from her father, the Reverend Billy Graham.
I couldn't believe what I was hearing on television...
it moved me to the very core of everything I believe,
and I wanted to share it here with you again this year.

Each year, I come back to this post and each year,
it's as poignant and real for me as ever it was....  it goes like this:

“Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance.

We know Your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good,’ but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.

We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.

We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.

We have killed our unborn and called it choice.

We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.

We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem.

We have abused power and called it politics.

We have coveted our neighbor’s possessions and called it ambition.

We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography
and called it freedom of expression.

We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers
and called it enlightenment.
Search us, oh God, and know our hearts today;
cleanse us from every sin and set us free.
Amen.”

As families gather for the holiday,
please remember there is no reason to have a holiday called Thanksgiving
unless there is Someone to thank.
Thanks be to God and Jesus Christ His Son for all the blessings on our fair land.
