I grew up on Hendrix music and was captivated by his talent - he was a true phenomenon and I'm here to tell you, the man could make a guitar SING!
So, it's with great affection that I stand here today and tip my hat & touch my heart to one of the most amazing guitar players that ever lived.
Jimi was born Johnny Allen Hendrix and started his career as a backup in bands like the Isley Brothers, Sam Cooke and Jackie Wilson. It's no wonder that he soon struck out on his own - not only could the man play but his voice was like buttah to me!
In 1992, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - and rightly so! Although The Jimi Hendrix Experience only put out three projects - Are You Experienced?, Axis: Bold As Love and Electric Ladyland, their music lives on and on.
Jimi was 27 yrs old when he died of a drug overdose 38 yrs ago. They were different times back then, and we lost many incredible artists to drugs. Sad but true, and it could have been me as easily as it was someone so talented and gifted.
Jimi, your legend will always live on in my heart. You will always be the King of the Guitar players to me!

OK....I was the baby sister of one of the first "hippies" I ever saw or knew, so I became quite familiar with Jimi's music.
My fav song he did? When he played "The Star Spangled Banner"!

yep a guitar legend for sure, unlike any other!
One cannot think of the '60's without images of Jimi flashing through your mind. He is an icon and he defined the generation. I just so wish he'd lived to make more music.
